On June 15, 2011 TEAM (Tutoring to Educate for Aims and Motivation) celebrated the graduation of the class of 2011 with its 27th TEAM Banquet commemorating the accomplishments of the seniors and the mentors that make up the valuable cooperative.
Parents, families and Erie staff shared heartfelt gratitude and pride. One graduate said, “Actually, I believe, if I didn’t come to Erie House, I would [have] been a drop out. Simply like that. Erie House has kept my mind in school.”
Since 1998, TEAM students have demonstrated a 100% high school graduation rate and a 98% college placement rate. Additionally, college-bound TEAM students receive financial support through the TEAM Scholarship Fund, which has awarded more than $550,000 to TEAM graduates since its inception.
The TEAM banquet, organized by Youth Option Unlimited staff, culminated with the distribution of six distinguished scholarships to graduating seniors. This year the banquet saw the dispersal of two new awards. Manuel Flores and Illinois State Senator William Delgado were both present to award the first Ruben Delgado Future Educator Scholarship Award and the Casimir C. Petraitis Memorial Scholarship.
Erie celebrates with the parents and mentors of these 20 young adults, emerging as graduates from leading high schools across the city of Chicago. All 20 graduates will be entering institutions of higher education across the country and around the world, including, Dominican University; University of Iowa; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Notre Dame University; University of Illinois Chicago; and John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. We wish all of the graduates the best of luck and know that they will carry on the tradition of Erie’s tradition by strengthening their communities through leadership and empowering others to succeed.
Congratulations to the graduates!
