ERIE NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE receives Recognition/Accreditation from the U.S. Department of Justice Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)
WHAT: Erie Neighborhood House has applied for recognition under the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) from the U.S. Department of Justice. The appropriate offices of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) were served with the application, and the District Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service of the Department of Homeland Security has recommended approval of recognition. The respective offices have approved the application for Erie House to receive recognition under the Code of Federal Regulations to assess, compile and complete applications for immigration processes; Erie House can also represent applicants in front of immigration agents. All services will be provided to the community at a sliding scale. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.
WHO: Erie Neighborhood House as lead agency has received recognition and is one of about 20 agencies in the State to have recognition; Megan Granados along with Ambar Gonzalez, agency staff that have received partial accreditation. Both Ms. Granados and Ms. Gonzalez have attended the Immigrant Legal Resouce Center’s 40 hour Basic Immigration Law Course. Ms. Granados brings to Erie House over two years of experience in both the nonprofit and private sector. Ms. Gonzalez has worked in nonprofit immigrant legal services organizations and departments since August of 2006 and also provides our office with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Combined they provide Erie House with the knowledge necessary to successfully serve clients as they navigate the legal processes of immigration law.
