When TEAM launched in 1984, Erie supporters Carolyn Lang, Jack O’Kieffe, Glen F. and Elizabeth S. Graham knew that youth who completed the program would need support to continue their education through their college years. Over two decades later, their shared vision lies in the hearts and minds of Erie youth who have benefitted from their kindness and who are creating vibrant futures.
Through our HSBC TEAM Scholarship Fund, Erie is able to award graduating seniors a college scholarship. Scholarships range from $500 to $2,500 and are awarded to seniors based on grade point average, TEAM involvement, financial need, and hours dedicated to volunteer service and self-development. The Scholarship Fund and its several awards are strengthened by a number of thoughtful donors – like you - each year.
This year, Erie House is proud to announce two new memorial scholarships. The first scholarship is the Casimir C. Petraitis Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship memorializes Dr. Casimir Petraitis by being awarded to a student who is interested in learning about other cultures, languages, and the greater world around them. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is investing in the spirit of globalism throughout their college career.
Casimir C. Petraitis Memorial Scholarship Award - Esmeralda Tenorio, John Cabot University (Rome, Italy)
The second scholarship is the "Ruben Delgado" youth scholarship. This scholarship was created and funded by a generous individual in memory of Senator William Delgado's son, Ruben Delgado, who passed away in June of last year. Ruben Delgado was a dedicated teacher and educator at Morton East High School. This scholarship will be awarded to a Erie House TEAM high school graduate interested in pursuing a career in education. It may also support undocumented youth, who are unable to access financial support to be able to continue pursue higher education.
Ruben Delgado Future Educator Scholarship Award - Stephanie Zavala, Dominican University
Erie House’s Marjorie W. Lundy Future Leader Award and the Jaime Esparza Future Leader Award recognize an outstanding young woman and an outstanding young man for demonstrating leadership ability within their school and their community. In addition to high academic ranking, the recipients demonstrate an ability to interact with a variety of people, provide positive role models for peers, and are involved in numerous community and school-based activities. The awards are named on behalf of Marjorie Lundy, the former Vice President of Community Affairs for The Northern Trust Company and one of TEAM’s founding partners, and in memory of Jaime Esparza, a dedicated community leader, an advocate for Latino advancement, and a cherished friend of Erie House.
Marjorie Lundy Future Leader Award - Analaura Osorio, University of Iowa
Jamie Esparza Future Leader Award - Rolando Gonzalez, Northeastern Illinois University
The Rafael Ravelo “Corazón de Oro” Award is given to one TEAM graduate who has demonstrated an impressive level of involvement in his or her school, at Erie House, or in other community endeavors. Volunteerism, community work, and a “heart of gold” define the person who receives this award.
The award is named for Erie’s former executive director and current senior advisor, Rafael Ravelo, who embodies these traits and who, for many years, has been part of important initiatives that bring people together and support community growth and development.
Rafael Ravelo Corazón de Oro Award - Bridgette Williams, Millikin University
The Glen F. and Elizabeth S. Graham Academic Excellence Award is awarded to one TEAM graduate who has consistently displayed a commitment to academic excellence and has achieved the highest academic ranking. The award symbolizes Glen and Betty’s commitment to education and their belief that education is critical to supporting our youth and their future.
