Director of Workforce Development

Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving the Chicago metropolitan area and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society, is seeking a full-time Director of Workforce Development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Programs, the Director of Workforce Development’s basic function is being responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the department, ensuring compliance with program and funding requirements, program development, securing resources, and personnel supervision. The primary goals of the department are to coordinate its Pathways to Success (PTS) Program and amplify workforce opportunities through creative partnerships. PTS is the agency’s Bridge Program, designed to link youth and adults with barriers, including limited English and/or work skills, to high quality training programs administered by non-profits, community colleges or proprietary schools. The Director serves as a member of the agency Leadership management team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, strategic thinking and high quality management for workforce program
  • Oversees PTS program planning, development, implementation and evaluation while working to expand offerings
  • Defines objectives, indicators, & outcomes to ensure program success
  • Works closely with staff to enhance training curriculum as needed to keep up with industry requirements
  • Develops ambitious program goals for the department
  • In consultation with PTS team, develops strategies to identify, recruit and enroll qualified candidates
  • Coordinates program recruitment, enrollment, retention, and placement in training programs
  • Develops relationships with job training program providers to explore partnership possibilities; specifically, serves on the Management Committee of the Allied Health Care Career Network, including other external boards, committees, and initiatives
  • Maintains close communication with our job training program partners to document training completions & placements in jobs
  • Supervises staff of 5.5 FTE including: job developer, bridge program instructors, and support staff
  • Manages program budget in compliance with agency guidelines and funder requirements
  • Oversees the collection, analysis, and reporting of program data on an ongoing basis
  • Works with the Development department to prepare and submit proposals and reports
  • Plans events and coordinates publicity in coordination with Erie’s Communications Department
  • Collaborates with other adult programs and departments to enhance programming, internal and external
  • Attends monthly Program Director and Leadership Team meetings, All-Staff meetings, and others as assigned
  • Other duties as reasonable and appropriate

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in workforce development programs, adult education or vocational training programs
  • Superior communication, project management, budget, grant-writing, and supervision skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
  • Ability to work flexible hours as position requires some evening and weekend hours
  • Demonstrated commitment to adult education and vocational training
  • Experience in working with immigrant communities and adult learners preferred
  • Proficient with the use of computers, spreadsheets and analyzing reports and data
  • Commitment to social justice and sensitivity to the assets and challenges of a diverse group of adult learners
